What is Vinyasa yoga?
“Vinyasa yoga” is a term that covers a broad range of yoga classes in which movement is synchronized to the breath. Vinyasa literally means “the intelligent putting together of things,” or “uninterrupted flow” — in this case, the coordination of breath and movement.
At “Greater Self.org”, the classes are dynamic yoga classes with the tradition of Vinyasa Yoga kept in mind. Vinyasa is a general term that describes many different styles of yoga that are on the more vigorous side, with continuous movement and a rapid flow from one posture to another. Sometimes people refer to a vinyasa class as a “flow class”.
A derivative of Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga connects breath and asana to create an internal heat. Fluid transitions allow poses to flow from one to another, developing strength, stamina and flexibility while also calming the mind.
This ancient tradition brings a wide array of benefits, including:
- Improved muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina
- Improved blood circulation due to controlled breath and movement
- Reduced stress and tension
- Improved mental balance, intuition, creativity, concentration and senses
- Enhanced detoxification and stronger immune system
- Improved skin complexion and radiance
Each instructor has their own unique approach to teaching a Vinyasa class, but all our classes include heat building Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) and well-rounded sequences that incorporate all forms of physical movement.
We have gathered highly dedicated teachers in the tradition of Vinyasa Yoga, who will share their exceptional and authentic teachings from their unique and personal experiences.
Each posture provides 100% benefit if done correctly from the first 1% of the posture. As your body opens up and becomes stronger, you will improve at a deeper level and will be able to hold the posture longer.
No matter which type of yoga you prefer, this practice will certainly enhance your health and wellbeing, improve your fitness level, mind-body connection and the ease and comfort in your daily life.
Discover your body, your mind and your limits! It is your instructor’s job to push you to your limits. But only you know what you feel on any given day. This is your opportunity to learn about the connection between mind, body and balance.
This vigorous and dynamic style of yoga focuses on harmonizing your breathing with your movement. Standing postures are emphasized.
